When it comes to films being released, I feel like at least 60% of the delivery isn’t just the trailer, but the accompanying cover art/poster. In my [internet] travels, I’ve seen them some of the good, the bad, and the terrible horror film posters that the world has to offer. However, I actually came across a pattern when I see the bad posters – and I’m going to share it with you: they are all from another country than the film was initially filmed in. [ ~ if that makes sense] The thing is, although the bad posters are considered ‘terrible’, sometimes they’re hilariously entertaining to look at.. and other times they just spoil the whole plot. In this post, I’m going to share my top 5 favorite foreign horror posters – in no particular order. viewer discretion is advised. [possibility of spoilers]
For the first poster, we have this masterpiece from Ghana. Where do I begin with this one? Well for starters, North American posters don’t generally show the gore content .. wait, the gore wasn’t even that grotesque in this film! At least this poster is more entertaining than the version we got as seen here.
Hailing from Japan, this particular poster is just strange with it’s large cans of [Bruce] Campbell soup to dolphins swimming through coat hangers. this poster really has everything that isn’t about the movie. Fun Fact: Army Of Darkness in Japan was called “Captain Supermarket” due to the fact that Ash works at “S-Mart”. the North American poster however looked completely different then this one [except for Ash and Linda], check it out here!
Probably the best of the best [or was it ‘worst of the worst’ ?] when it comes down to terrible movie posters. Coming all the way from Poland, the poster looks like an advertisement for an old Nintendo game! If you were to see this poster and not have seen the trailer, would you be able to take it seriously? I didn’t think so. At least the North American poster is more mysterious: see it here!
Leave it to Japan [again] to make one of the best horror films [in my opinion, anyway] into an anime feature.. It looks too happy and/or too quirky. I do not mean this in a good way, I assure you. Don’t forget to check out the North American poster here.
Ending with a poster I feel is almost better then the original, we have this Creepshow poster from France. I say better because it actually shows Billy sitting on the comic book which ends up being the 5 shorts from the film! For the North American poster, click here!
and that makes five.. It’s almost as if we traveled the world, through posters! From Poland to France to Japan, we saw it all: the good, the bad and the strange. Which was your favorite? Did I miss a poster that you thought of? Let me know! be sure to follow warrenisweird for more top fives about film, comic books and super heroes! and as always:
