warrenisweird’s TOP 05 movies watched in 2014

top05movieswatched2014

As 2014 comes closer to a close everyday, I figured it’d be best to do this now rather than later and talk about some of my favorite films of the year. However, I’m doing it differently than most people who do this kind of thing: instead of my favorite movies from this year, I’m going to be doing a list of movies I watched in 2014 – meaning, if a film came out in 2013, but I saw it for the first time in 2014, then it’s completely valid for this particular list. Make sense? Cool. Some of the films I’ve chosen even have full posts dedicated to how awesome they were. Now, enough babble – let’s begin this list; and surprisingly, some of them aren’t even horror!

[note: as per usual, this list is in no specific order!]

13 Sins:

To begin this list, I’m going to mention a film I once called a “special little gem”. I had heard of it before, and when I finally got around to actually watching it – I was in awe. Apparently it was quite the awe-inspiring film, cause I even dedicated an entire post to it: check it out here! It’s a remake of a Korean film, but I didn’t know that until after I watched it, so I’m not arguing that point!

Guardians Of The Galaxy:

I must be Hooked On A Feeling [I am so sorry for that pun] cause honestly, this film is probably one of the greatest film I have seen in a long time. It had everything I wanted it to have.. and more! I mean who doesn’t like a talking raccoon and a walking, talking tree?! I know I do! read a full-fledged review of Guardians over here.

How To Train Your Dragon 2:

Simply put, How To Train Your Dragon 2 is probably the most heart-warming films to make this list. The first Dragons film is one of my all time favorite animated films ever, and this sequel definitely confirmed my love for the characters. It’s an emotional roller-coaster, and I absolutely loved it. The movie left me with but a singular thought: I want a fucking dragon. [read my letterboxd review on the film]

American Mary:

Although technically from 2012, I first watched American Mary all the way back in February. It’s a hauntingly beautiful film, [especially after a rewatch] with some nice horror elements to say in the least. It was a quirky little film that definitely deserves more love. Did I mention that Katharine Isabelle is extremely hot in this film? [seriously. don’t believe me? click here! NSFW warning]

Tusk:

This one is definitely one for the books. Tusk is one of those films that you either love, or you find yourself absolutely hating. It isn’t a movie for everyone. It’s funny, it’s eerie, it’s fucking weird. But you can feel Kevin Smith oozing from it. [this is not a bad thing] It’s about a man who wants to turn another man into a walrus.. and then he fucking does. [because of course he does] It’s a blood-soaked mess, but I absolutely loved it – particularly, the concept. If you want to know my full thoughts on this beast, read my review on the film here.

Obviously, there are tons of movies that I could have mentioned for this list, but there’s just so many to choose from.. I could have gone on and on forever with the movies I enjoyed this past year, but it’s hard to narrow it down to just five. What were your favorite films of the year? Do you have a favorite that comes from this list? let me know in a comment! With 2014 officially on it’s way out, it’s time to prepare for 2015, and all it’s horror [films] that are coming our way! [and that’s not including the newest slate of horror remakes that are bound to happen cause as we all know, Hollywood is completely out of originality these days]
