I’m a fan of the original Evil Dead trilogy. Hell, I even loved the Evil Dead remake! So it’s no wonder that I’m extremely excited for the new TV series from STARZ: Ash vs Evil Dead. Not much is known about the show yet, although we do know it will continue the adventures of Ash, with two new sidekicks. [played by Ray Santiago and Dana DeLorenzo] If that’s not enough to get you excited about the show, we even have a plot mapped out which is as follows:
“We are introduced to a nomadic Ash, a figure who’s not only haunted by traumatic memories but also terrorized by the unwelcome continuance of Deadite attacks, which have followed him to the myriad Midwestern trailer parks he’s been forced to call home. In an effort to eke out an existence and in keeping with his previous choice of career, the character spends his days working at Ted’s Superclub as a stock room trainee and, in true Ash fashion, his evenings chasing skirt in roadside bars.”
Now the real reason I’m explaining all this [if you haven’t figured it out by now] is that Sam Raimi, the original creator of the Evil Dead series, is slated to direct the first episode of the new Ash vs Evil Dead show! The script was written with Ivan Raimi, Craig DiGregorio, and Tom Spezialy as well! Sam Raimi will also be acting as the series’ executive producer [being the creator of the characters, etc] along with Rob Tapert, Campbell and DiGregorio coming to serve as executive producers. Obviously, this is fantastic news; as it should be keeping the feeling of Evil Dead alive – no pun intended.
With ten -30 minute- episodes ordered for the show, principal filming is slated to start this April in New Zealand with a planned Halloween 2015 series debut on Starz media. I just have to hope it heads to Netflix too, since I don’t exactly have cable at the apartment.. According to Bruce Campbell, these “new” deadites are very clever, saying that they are not “stupid shufflers”. He’s also mentioned that they can mimic people; and even drive cars!
Ultimately, Ash vs Evil Dead is still in production, [October is at least 8 months away ] but at the very least, this news is enough to satisfy me for now.. what about you guys? Are you feeling as excited as I am about the news involving series creator Sam Raimi directing the first official episode? Let me know in a comment or two, or even on Facebook. And while you’re over on Facebook, be sure to hit that “like” button and tell your family and friends!
