The Woman In Black: Angel Of Death gets a new Synopsis?

“During the London bombings of World War II, school teachers Eve Parkins and Jean Hogg lead a group of children in evacuation to Crythin Gifford, a remote village outside of the city. When the group takes up residence at the Eel Marsh House, 40 years after Arthur Kipps investigated the first haunting, Eve soon realizes they are not alone. The longer they stay in the house, the more the awful past of the residence unravels itself and the evil spirit that lurks around them threatens the well-being of the children. With the help of a pilot, Eve does all that she can to protect the children and discover the truth behind the Woman in Black.”

Unlike the majority of the horror population, I actually enjoyed the 2012 remake/reboot of The Woman In Black; even if it was a remake of this TV Movie, but with Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe. However reminiscent of Potter it felt from time to time, [I mean, the train scene at the end? ugh] it was still an special experience and I actually enjoyed it with it’s eerie feeling, the Victorian time it was set in, and all the horror that came with it. It felt like an old school Hammer film. [which I may be alone on saying…] But with The Woman In Black‘s ending, people were fairly curious – myself included – how they’d continue the story of the dreaded Woman In Black. [especially since that ending!] Which brings us to the film’s sequel: Angel Of Death.

well that’s not creepy at all..

Set to be released on January 2nd, 2015, the film is claimed [according to IMDb] to have already completed it’s filming. Angel Of Death takes place 40 years after the first haunting at Eel Marsh House, [meaning 40 years after the first movie] where a group of children evacuated from WWII London arrive at the house, awakening the house’s darkest inhabitant: The Woman In Black.

Now wait: stop, stop, stop, stop! What do you mean a group of children are going to be living in the house? Doesn’t The Woman [In Black] attack children as a revenge tactic? That’s..kind of predicable, even for today’s horror! I can understand the idea of the film taking place 40 years later, and even the idea of WWII London, but children? if it does take place only 40 years later, wouldn’t the people of Crythin Gifford still know[or at least have heard of] the infamous stories revolving around the house? Yet, they are perfectly fine with letting [a large group of] kids live there during the war? I don’t get adults sometimes.

When the film was first announced the plot was actually quite different, where it followed Eel Marsh House after it was transformed into a recovery home for injured war soldiers [probably from the newer WWII London plot], run by a small group of staff members; specifically, a young nurse who begins to notice that something isn’t right with the house. As the war veterans begin to turn up dead [or even disappear] it was up to the young nurse to discover Eel Marsh‘s tragic past, kind of like Arthur Kipps had to in the first film. However, with the revised actually makes a bit more sense, as The Woman In Black doesn’t attack veterans, but children.

yeah, yeah, I know; this is from the first film, I just really like this GIF.

Ultimately, I don’t know how I feel about the sequel just yet. It doesn’t look terrible, but it also feels slightly predictable. How do you feel about the idea of the synopsis changing? was it for the better or the worst? Let me know in a comment below! Also, if you haven’t seen the trailer for The Woman In Black: Angel Of Death, I’ve included it below:

Insidious: Chapter 3 trailer to come out on Friday?

[note: the source of this information is from this article]

I may be alone in this, but I actually enjoyed the first two Insidious films. [at least, until Darth Maul’s brother showed up..] However, according to an article on Shocktillyoudrop, [as found above] a trailer for a third Insidious is set to be released in front of the [really bland and boring looking] film Ouija which is set to be released this October 24th – which is actually this coming Friday. This actually makes quite a bit of sense, since Ouija is a Blumhouse Production [which in turn is a joint company with Platinum Dunes, who helped release the Insidious films]

Of course, being as Insidious: Chapter 3 isn’t set to be released until May 29th, 2015, not much is known about the film except for that Leigh Whannell is directing/writing the film [again] and that the main three [Lin Shaye, Angus Sampson, and Leigh Whannell] are set to reappear as their characters from the first two films. [as seen in the picture below]

left to right: Leigh Whannell. Lin Shaye. Angus Sampson

Another important piece that we know of is it’s a prequel – to the first movie [groan] In the film’s plot, we’re introduced to a new tale of terror involving a teenage girl and her family, [most likely the one from the ending of Chapter 2..wait, what? that doesn’t make sense..does it?] taking place before the haunting of the Lambert family in the first two movies, therefore we’ll probably be shown even more mysteries from the demon’s hell-like world: The Further.

Again, I’m perfectly okay with a third film, because as much as the second film wasn’t fantastic, it was half decent. [at least for what it was..] I just hope we get more from Darth Maul this time, [sorry, the WIKI page calls him “The Lipstick Demon”..weird] since it seems he’s the guy behind everything. [just me throwing a little guess in, don’t hold me to it!]

Also, just for the sake of throwing it in [since I mentioned it a little], if you didn’t know what Ouija is about: It’s a film that follows a small group of friends who learn that they have to face their most terrifying [but not really terrifying] fears when they awaken the dark powers of an ancient spirit board. scary? not really.. [trust me, the trailer makes it not as creepy as they lead you to believe]

So now I turn to you horror fans: How do you feel about a third Insidious film? Did you enjoy the first ones? what did you like/dislike? I’m not the only one who doesn’t like the name Lipstick Demon, right? let me know in a comment or two, and be sure to find me on Facebook!

England rollercoaster hits a deer [meanwhile riders are splashed with blood!]

It seems I’m delayed on talking about this, but it’s definitely new information to me. It seems a few days ago, at a theme park called Lighwater Valley in Ripon, UK, there was an accident on one of the rides. The ride in question: known as “The Ultimate” [it’s actually one of the longest roller coasters in Europe] has been reported [by The Mirror] to have hit a deer at over 50mph after the poor animal mindlessly wandered onto the the worst possible time. Now, the next picture I’m going to post involves blood, and remember, this is a real thing that has happened.

If that’s not enough, there were [obviously] patrons on the ride at the time of the incident, meaning as the deer crossed the track, the ride’s car[s] went zooming past, killing it instantly [and splashed everyone on board] Thankfully, no one was injured in any way, although the 1.5 mile ride had to be closed for half an hour while checks were carried out. Due to the instant death of the deer, it didn’t suffer by any means.

that’s gonna be hard to wash out.. sorry..

As it’s expected, a couple of visitors that were on the ride during the incident blood on their clothing, but no riders commented about the incident on the day other than to show concern for the fate of the [now dead] deer. As a horror fan, this certainly seems like something that would happen in a Final Destination film, specifically the third, except with a deer instead of a group of patrons.

What would you do in this situation? Freak out knowing your clothing is now stained with deer blood? find the whole thing hilarious, knowing that this sounds like a bad horror film? Or would you feel bad for the deer? Let me know in a comment or two, here or on Facebook. be sure to stay safe on these kinds of things – even if no one was hurt; safety measures are kind of important!

GWAR has a new vocalist – and SHE is in charge!

Although I tend to talk about movies on warrenisweird, this specific post is going to be slightly different than usual in the sense that I’m going to talk about something else: music. When it comes to music, I enjoy most hardcore punk bands [my favorite band will always be Brand New] and some [I’m fairly selective] metal bands. One metal band I enjoy in particular is GWAR. [above] They are known for putting on insanely awesome shows, being the all-singing, all-decapitating, blood-and-guts-drenched thrash metal horror group they are from Richmond, Virginia. [I dare you to look their live performances up on Youtube] The one “character” who was the ‘main event’ of the group was the founding member Dave Brockie: or as he was known to fans – ringleader Oderus Urungus. Out of  costume though, Dave was known as one of the nicest guys in metal, always making sure people were safe at their [always sold out] shows. Unfortunately, Brockie died earlier this year due to a heroin overdose, and GWAR fans had a dark ominous feeling over their heads for a long time – wondering what’s going to happen next for the band..

As it turns out, the band continued, making moves and putting things into motion [which Brockie would have wanted – the show must go on, as they say] and were left with a final, but obvious situation: finding a new front-person. As cliche as it sounds – how could they find someone as intense as Dave? He was extremely well liked, and it would be hard to find someone to replace him that would be accepted as a GWAR member. Well, it seems like after 30 years of playing offensive, shocking music; the band has made what some may see as their most shocking move yet – They found their ‘front person’, and she is in charge.

Introducing VULVATRON: GWAR‘s first lead woman. She’s nobody’s girlfriend, or groupie or background dancer; Vulvatron is in charge. She may be new to the band, but she’s already claiming to be a monster instead of a princess, which makes us realize [especially thanks to her outfit] that she can be as grotesque as her band-mates. Vulvatron is played by a woman named Kim Dylla, an accomplished clothing designer and musician in her own way, and her new status as high priestess of GWAR is going to make some noise. especially in the metal community.

If we could go back to Dave Brockie for a minute or two, he was also in the Ariescope show Holliston, playing Adam Green‘s imaginary friend. Oderus Urungus was also a friend of Green‘s offstage, and as a memorable tribute, Ariescope actually made a tribute video of Brockie [using clips from the show]. See the tribute video [as made by Ariescope] below:

as a metal fan, I’m sure I’m not alone in saying I miss you Oderus Urungus, you had a huge impact on many people – including myself. I don’t know where you are, or how you’re doing – but if you’ve made it back to your alien planet of Scumdogia, I hope you’re doing well slaying all the monsters to your heart’s content. [RIP]

and welcome Vulvatron, may you charge forward as new leader of this sick circus known to the world as GWAR. HAIL VULVATRON

I’ve been nominated for a “LIEBSTER award” !

When I woke up yesterday [before work at 8am] I noticed my iPod going off saying I have a notification. Sure enough, I had a comment notification from WordPress. [from none other than this individual; THANKS AGAIN!] It read that I’ve been nominated for a Liebster Award . Not knowing what it truly means, I did some research. really is so I did some research before starting this post and came across some info. according to Wordingwell, the Liebster Award exists only on the internet, and is given to bloggers by other bloggers. It has a set of rules [so like Fight Club?], and that you’re meant to follow them. by doing so, you agree to send the ‘award’ to 11other people – so long as they have less than 200 followers. After thanking the person who ‘nominated’ you, you have to answer 11 questions that were posted by the ‘nominator’ and then nominate 11 other people to do the same [with your own questions]

So let’s get on with Tidlidim‘s questions! This ought to be an interesting one, so here goes everything! Please note: the questions will be in bold, and my response will be italicized.

Ready, Set, Go!

1) How would you describe yourself in one sentence?

“weird.” I’d assume that much was obvious.. haha!

2) What’s the worst thing you’ve ever eaten?

Surf Clams. I’ll try anything once – and in this case: once is enough.

3) What’s the best movie you’ve seen this year?

“Guardians Of The Galaxy”. no question; read my reasons why it’s fantastic here!

4) List 3 things that are on your bucket list.

put simply; have a family in the future, have my own ‘basement theater’ & meet Stan Lee.

5) What’s the naughtiest thing you’ve done as a kid?

I totally cheated on a math test in grade 2 and I [and the one I cheated from] were the only ones who got it right. got detention for the week for that one.

6) What’s the item you carry around with you most of the time?

especially when I’m ‘on call’ for work – I have to have my phone on me almost all the damn time.

7) Could you live without the internet? In what ways would your life be different?

honestly, I feel terrible for saying it, but I doubt I could survive without it. I’m just so used to having it at my disposal that without it, I would feel confused. If I didn’t have it though, I think life would be almost simpler, and even that hurts to admit.

8) What’s the best photo you’ve ever taken? Or if you don’t use a camera, what’s the best photo someone has taken of you?

I’m only mentioning this one cause I forgot all about it until I found it on my hard-drive. [I’m the guy on the right] FOLLOW THE GUY ON THE FAR LEFT HERE!

9) What is the thing you’re most afraid of? (physical things)

Clowns. I’ve covered this topic a ton.. next question, please!

10) You’re an actor/actress and you get the role of your dreams. Who would you be?

I always liked the idea of a superhero who has recently retired from ‘superhero-ism’ due to PTSD. I think it’s an interesting concept that should be explored in film. So to answer the question, I’d want to be a superhero, preferably Spider-Man – Superman is a nerd.

So now that I’ve answered all 11 questions – which were harder than I thought they’d be – I’m now supposed to nominate some people to do the same [hopefully I even know 11 people]

The people I’d like to nominate are the following:

movies, film, and flix

watch me watch this

retcon poet

house of geekery

the nerds of color

one life, recorded

Basically, Emily

daves corner of the universe

ink. brush. paper

journey into awesome

Your task is simple, to answer my following eleven questions [which obviously, because it’s me, will revolve around films], and pass your own onto 11 people of your choice. good luck!

What is your favorite film of all time?

least favorite film of all time?

who is one actor that everyone loves but you hate?

Favorite genre of film?

If you were to write your own script/story line for a film, what would the film be about?

continuing off the last question, who would you want to star?

Favorite film from the last 10 years?

which actor would you kill to meet?

What film has the best score, in your opinion?

What’s a trope in a movie you can’t stand?

are you following me on Facebook if you aren’t already? [find the page here] why or why not?

THANKS FOR READING [and once again, thanks to Tidlidim for the nomination!]

It’s because of you guys that I continue to write on here; it’s one of my favorite things to do and I’m so damn thankful that there are actually people out there that enjoy my thoughts on things! I would have never believed it until I started doing this!

So I guess that’s pretty well it for this announcement – I’ve created a fan page on Facebook and if you like what I’m doing here on warrenisweird, be sure to ‘like’ the page over there too. It can be found at this link. thank you in advance and as always,

So here we are: the first post of warrenisweird. I was actually planning to make this blog for a while now, but never really [unfortunately] found the time – that or I would put it off for some stupid reason. Either way, it has begun. Assuming you didn’t read the “about the author” page in the menu, I’m Warren and I’m pretty weird. I like horror movies, cartoons, comic books and even enjoy writing film reviews over on Letterboxd.

Now, this post will hopefully be kept relatively shorter than others will be since it is the first [of many] post. But, because it’s the first post — I thought I’d share just a few of the [many] ideas I plan on ‘blogging’ about on here on warrenisweird:

~ deepbreath.

#1] personal ‘adventures’ in my own life : the main focus of this blog. by this, I mean I will be talking about what I – Warren – am up to in my own life every so often, sounds boring, I know; but I like the ideal of writing in part as an almost ‘journal’.

#2] film and ‘geekery’ : this one is a bit tricky since this is what I wrote about on my ‘original‘ blog [found here]. I say this is ‘tricky’ because I will be talking about filmography on here as well, but not as much as I did on the last blog; I will be talking about my thoughts on films as well [I may write short reviews on here but full film reviews will remain on my Letterboxd account: found here]

#3] occasionally, I will do top 5, top 10, etc lists/challenges : every so often, [depending on my work schedule] there will be top 5 [or even 10] lists for various things, such as ‘Warren’s top 5 horror films’ or ‘Warren’s top 10 childhood cartoons’ . [and obviously – many, many other lists of sorts]

so there it is, a [fairly drawn out] welcome post to warrenisweird. I will be posting as often as I can, but with a fairly busy job – this can be troublesome at times. Catch me on my next post, which will be everyone’s favorite, the infamous: ‘5 things about the author!’
