Annoucement: something a little different — an update

If you’ve been following warrenisweird for awhile now, you probably have noticed that there’s one category of post that doesn’t come up as much as it used to: Journals. They used to be more frequent, and they used to be a ‘once and a while’ sort of thing, to keep you – the readers – up to date with what I have been up to outside of the blogging world. However, I hardly post these anymore; and they’re something that I feel doesn’t fit the general theme of my blog; even if it is about myself. So as an effort to use it more, and a way to steer away from that kind of post here, I plan on not posting any Journal posts on here anymore, though the ones I’ve already written; will remain..and the Journal posts will cease to exist. Or will they? What I mean by this is that, I’m not saying that I’ll never writing anything about myself and updates about myself again, I just mean that they won’t be featured on warrenisweird, and that’s where Medium comes in..

Medium works in a way that makes anyone feel like they’re an author of their own story, without the hassle of feeling like they need to build an audience in the blogging atmosphere [blogosphere?] It’s been called “a new place on the Internet where people share ideas and stories that are longer than 140 characters and not just for friends.” Which makes sense, since one of the co-founders of Twitter designed it. Although it’s a blogging platform designed for smaller stories that “make your day better and manifestos that change the world,” it has it’s way of helping you find the right audience for whatever you have to say. I think that’s what attracted me to it – I could say what I want, how I want, and whoever is interested; can read it. If not, they move on in their lives and it doesn’t affect them. Which, in turn, doesn’t affect me. It’s pretty great for that reason. Surprisingly, I’ve actually been on Medium for awhile now – check my profile here –  but I never ended up using it, since I’d tend to write elsewhere: whether Facebook or warrenisweird. Don’t think I’m going anywhere, because I’m definitely not; I’m just trying to say that warrenisweird is going to be strictly horror related posts now, and personal things – like what I’ve been up to outside of blogging – will be on Medium. With all that said and done , I just wanted to share this, I know it’s probably not the post you expected from me today, but here it is. I promise come the next post, it will be horror-related, but I just wanted to share this in case someone was wondering why there hasn’t been any Journals as of late. In fact, be sure to catch up on what I’ve been posting over on Medium by reading my most recent post, titled “A Twist Of Fate.” It’s essentially an update on one of the biggest things happening in my life right now, which has me both excited and nervous. [but also, something that’s been a long time coming]

Sam Raimi HINTS at an ‘Evil Dead crossover’ film with ASH & MIA!

Remember Evil Dead ? It was easily one of, if not – my favorite film of it’s year. It was gruesome, it was totally not what I expected, it was violent, and it was a remake [one of the only remakes I actually enjoy!] of one of my favorite films ever: The Evil Dead. With San Diego Comic Con wrapping up this past weekend, a lot has been mentioned/shown to audiences lucky enough to be forward enough, but of everything shown, I’m finding myself looking forward to most but mainly — two specific things; Ash VS Evil Dead and [more recently hinted at] an Evil Dead crossover film featuring both Ash and Mia.. and this is coming from Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi themselves!

In addition to showing off their first full trailer for Ash VS Evil Dead[which I’ll include in this post, near the end!]  plus telling a room full of over 1000 people that the new series will premiere exclusively on Starz on Oct. 31st — that’s Halloween, for you primitive screwheads who can’t already tell — Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell also let the notion of a [major] possibility for what we might expect from the next Evil Dead movie.

When asked whether Raimi, who is an executive producer on Ash VS Evil Dead [and director of its first episode], would ever like to make another Evil Dead film, Raimi had a this to say:: “After working with Fede Alvarez, who did a terrific job on the Evil Dead remake…we loved that movie and we [are] thinking we should do a team-up eventually of his great heroine and our hero for a joint-Evil Dead reality.

For those who don’t know; Instead of clumsy yet loveable Ash, the remake saw Mia [played by the beautiful Jane Levy] as the heroine of the film, becoming a Deadite-like creature herself, before ultimately stopping the horde of enemies from taking over.. though by then, She was much too late. Without getting into it too much, it was essentially exactly what I wanted from the series: I just didn’t know it until I saw it with my own two eyes! Going back to the topic at hand, what it seems that Raimi is suggesting is a crossover between the original Evil Dead films’ star [Ash] and the hero[ine] from the remake; making this a team up so much more groovy than anything we’ve come to see from the film series we already know and love! In retrospect, this would explain why [SPOILERS! but not really] Ash appears at the end of the remake’s credits just simply stating ‘groovy’!’ Obviously, this is just all “a possibly” right now — with nothing confirmed just yet.. All that is certain is Ash VS Evil Dead, which is coming together perfectly. It’s really coming to feel like the original Evil Dead series again; with blood, guts, and even some comedy thrown in the mix — something that was missing from the remake, which made it effective as fuck. [seriously: that remake was great, even if it was pure terror!]  Also, if you haven’t – check out the first full trailer for Ash VS Evil Dead, below!

So now I turn to you, with today’s question which is: Did you like the Evil Dead remake? Or did you find the lack of comedy just “not Evil Dead” ? What about a crossover with Ash and Mia? Is this something you’d want to see on the big screen, or should the two series be left to their own series? Let me know in a comment or two!! LADY GAGA to star in American Horror Story: Season 5

Whether you love it, or you hate it, American Horror Story is a show that is everything I could want from a TV show revolved around the horror genre. [even if I’m behind and still haven’t watched “Freak Show” yet..] It’s creepy, the story telling tends to be nothing short of amazing, and the visual effects are always stunning!

However, today’s big news is not only the casting of Gaga, [which is still a shock to me] but also the big reveal of Season 5’s central theme. For those that don’ watch the show, each season of American Horror Story has a different subtitle, [season 1 was just American Horror Story, season 2 was known as “Asylum”, season 3 was “Coven”, and season 4 was “Freak Show”] but, according to Gaga, the subtitle for this year is “Hotel” which, if 100% true; knocks out the fan theory that was scattered over the Internet, which was that Season 5 was going to cover a fallout of chemical warfare. By the title, it seems as if we are instead getting something a little closer to themes from The Shining.

With Lady Gaga officially signed on, this can be considered her first major acting role,  even if she did make small cameos in films such as Machete Kills and Sin City: A Dame To Kill For. Obviously, at the moment, the details revolving around season 5 are scarce, but chances are that Her role is a slightly bigger one this time around, mainly considering the fact that Jessica Lange is no longer in the show. Be sure to check out Lady Gaga‘s teaser video that she left on Twitter below!

Realistically though, I’m still not sure how I feel about this, I mean – I’m sure Lady Gaga can pull it off, with how weird she is [that’s a compliment!] but I just hope she isn’t replacing Jessica Lange entirely. I understand that Lange is done with the show as whole, but her acting is always on point and she’s clearly the star of the show’s last 4 seasons! How do you feel about Lady Gaga joining American Horror Story? Is it the greatest idea yet? or something that shouldn’t be happening at all? Let me know in a comment or two, or even over on Facebook. While you’re over there, why not hit that “like” button a few times, and share the page with friends and family? By “liking” the page, you get access to articles and pictures NOT found on the actual blog, which can always be seen as plus! STAY WEIRD, and as always:

I’m a fan of the original Evil Dead trilogy. Hell, I even loved the Evil Dead remake! So it’s no wonder that I’m extremely excited for the new TV series from STARZ: Ash vs Evil Dead. Not much is known about the show yet, although we do know it will continue the adventures of Ash, with two new sidekicks. [played by Ray Santiago and Dana DeLorenzo] If that’s not enough to get you excited about the show, we even have a plot mapped out which is as follows:

“We are introduced to a nomadic Ash, a figure who’s not only haunted by traumatic memories but also terrorized by the unwelcome continuance of Deadite attacks, which have followed him to the myriad Midwestern trailer parks he’s been forced to call home. In an effort to eke out an existence and in keeping with his previous choice of career, the character spends his days working at Ted’s Superclub as a stock room trainee and, in true Ash fashion, his evenings chasing skirt in roadside bars.”

Now the real reason I’m explaining all this [if you haven’t figured it out by now] is that Sam Raimi, the original creator of the Evil Dead series, is slated to direct the first episode of the new Ash vs Evil Dead show! The script was written with Ivan Raimi, Craig DiGregorio, and Tom Spezialy as well! Sam Raimi will also be acting as the series’ executive producer [being the creator of the characters, etc] along with Rob Tapert, Campbell and DiGregorio coming to serve as executive producers. Obviously, this is fantastic news; as it should be keeping the feeling of Evil Dead alive – no pun intended.

“fucking yeeeeeees!”

With ten -30 minute- episodes ordered for the show, principal filming is slated to start this April in New Zealand with a planned Halloween 2015 series debut on Starz media. I just have to hope it heads to Netflix too, since I don’t exactly have cable at the apartment.. According to Bruce Campbell, these “new” deadites are very clever, saying that they are not “stupid shufflers”. He’s also mentioned that they can mimic people; and even drive cars!

Ultimately, Ash vs Evil Dead is still in production, [October is at least 8 months away ] but at the very least, this news is enough to satisfy me for now.. what about you guys? Are you feeling as excited as I am about the news involving series creator Sam Raimi directing the first official episode? Let me know in a comment or two, or even on Facebook. And while you’re over on Facebook, be sure to hit that “like” button and tell your family and friends!
