A GROOVY Look Inside The Upcoming “Evil Dead 2” Coloring Book!

knxenft

Awhile ago, I wrote a post about a horror coloring book and how over the last few years, adult coloring books have earned themselves enormous popularity around the world. [read that post here!] This is for good reason though, because some people see them as relaxing or therapeutic. As I am sure you are aware, there are many different themes for them; from Harry Potter to Animal Kingdoms; it really all depends what your inner child is calling for. But what if your “inner child” is none other than The King himself, Ash Williams? Then the people over at Space Goat Productions have you covered! Besides releasing a handful of comic books such as Evil Dead 2: Revenge Of Krampus, they are also putting out an Evil Dead 2 board game – which I really need on my shelf – this year! READ THAT AGAIN: an Evil Dead 2 board game! What’s next? A coloring book? Its funny you say that..because that’s exactly what is coming our way; Evil Dead 2: The Adult Coloring and Activity Book [aka: 96-pages of pure ‘Evil Dead 2’ fun!]

Of course, the book is not here yet, but you can still pre-order – arguably – the coolest coloring book of all time over on the Merch Goat website. Because I care – and I am just way too excited for this book – take a look at a few of the inside pages below and let me know what you think! They even suggest you share your “colored pages” on social media using the hashtag “#ColorMeDead” which to me sounds oh so appropriate!

So the real take away begs the question of if You plan on pre ordering this extremely GROOVY book? Why or Why Not? Let me know below! [I plan on picking one up as soon as they become available!] As always, if you find yourself to enjoy what I do on here, then please take a minute and follow me over on my Facebook page [we’re just over 190+ likes – let’s get to 200!] By clicking that “like” button, you’ll see every post from warrenisweird the very moment it’s been “gone live” online; and I also share links to articles and pictures/videos that will not be featured here on the blog.

a CAT Dressed as ASH from “EVIL DEAD” just won Halloween 2016

o58fgzq

We’re two days away from Halloween and I have to say: I still haven’t figured out a costume! I know, but between re-watching The Walking Dead series with Steph [we just started season 3!] and work, we’ve been kind of busy. However, none of that matters because someone just won best costume of the year – and it’s arguably the grooviest costume I’ve ever seen..oh, did I forget to mention that this costume is on a cat?

Before we get into the details, I want to start by saying I don’t mean to ruin the fun for all you fellow cat parents out there – Steph and I have two – but I’m pretty confident in saying that cats most likely hate being dressed up for Halloween. Of course, don’t get me wrong, we pet owners find it adorable when we put shark fins on their heads or put little coats on them, but the scratches and bite marks I’ve received over the years that have turned into scars seem to give reason that they’re not having as much fun as we are – contrary to what we may tell ourselves..

That being said, thanks to the people over on Twitter under the account name Cat Cosplay, who work with [as they put it] “trained cat models”, we get to see many cats pull off some of the craziest cat photoshoots you’ve ever seen – or thought of – and for Halloween this year, they’re going all out: including dressing up one of those “furbabies” [as Steph calls them] up as one of the most popular horror icons of all: The Evil Dead franchise’s very own Deadite-slayer, Ash Williams [but if you clicked on this, then you knew that already] and yes, thanks to a well crafted fake arm, they even gave this little cutie his own chainsaw hand! HOLY HELL. I cannot get over the cleverness of this costume, and it makes me want to makeshift the same kind of costume for my cats, though I can only take so many “cat-attacks..”

HAIL TO THE CAT as they say, and check out the remaining four photos from the photo shoot below.

You really have to hand it to the cat for being so calm and collected during these photoshoots, I know for a fact that if I even tried, I would get attacked. Unfortunately, “Army Of Darkness” is NOT part of “Ash VS. Evil Dead”

sx0wlwr

I’m back! I know, I’ve been missing from here for about two weeks, but between work and self-preparing for applying for College [in 2017]; I’ve been a little busy! I’m not going to write a huge list of excuses – I’ll save that for another day – so let’s jump right into it and talk about a little something that follows one of my more favorite shows that has been getting everyone in the horror genre talking.

Back in July, when the San Diego Comic-Con had all sorts of news pouring out of every source imaginable, the horror-fans of the Internet lit up with joy when it – we – heard a rumor that said that Army Of Darkness would be a part of [or at the very least referenced] during the next season of Ash VS. Evil Dead. If you happened to catch the first season, [which if you haven’t – there are upcoming spoilers!] you probably remember that the show seemed to basically ignore the fact that our hero adventures into the Middle Ages; which seems like the sort of thing that would..or rather, should come up at least once. [Although there’s a drawing in the Season 01 finale that you could call a visual reference] So with that in mind, the rumor that some kind of Army Of Darkness callbacks would be in Season o2 of the series simply taunted us from the shadows. Damn Deadites..

js7ndls

will we ever hear about the Boomstick again?

But, as we always seem to do, the Internet got way ahead of itself. When asked the question of whether or not Army Of Darkness will be an important piece of season two’s puzzle, Bruce Campbell gave us an answer: an answer, we may or may not like.. Here’s what the Chin had to say:

“I’ve been sort of putting that to bed. It was a random thing that Rob [Tapert] said, and you know how the internet is, if you see one sentence written, it’s real. I think Rob was more alluding to the fact that we’ve already taken stuff that would have been in Army Of Darkness. He still time-travels before Army Of Darkness. People have always asked, “Where is Army Of Darkness?” Like, we don’t really need Army Of Darkness. That was sort of our take on the whole thing. You’ve got to be careful referencing certain movies, because then you have to make deals with certain partners that might own those certain movies.”

Naturally, this could always change, if not this season then maybe next [if the show does indeed have a third season within itself – which better happen] But Campbell said: don’t expect any Army Of Darkness nods in Ash VS. Evil Dead anytime soon, and if you haven’t already heard: Ash VS. Evil Dead returns to Starz on October 2nd 2016. [Watch the first trailer for season 02 below!]

So there you have it, an update of what’s to come to Ash VS. Evil Dead, and not in the way we were hoping. Could this be good news in disguise though? Why or Why Not? Let me know in the comments! As always, if you find yourself to enjoy what I do on here, then please take a minute and follow me over on my Facebook page [we’re at over 150+ likes – let’s get to 200!] By clicking that “like” button, you’ll see every post from warrenisweird the very moment it’s been “gone live” online; and I also share links to articles and pictures/videos that will not be featured here on the blog.

REAL HORROR: an EVIL DEAD “super fan” is rebuilding THE CABIN!

whevu4x

Good morning boys and ghouls, there is someone I absolutely need to introduce you to. Someone, who apparently is a bigger Evil Dead fan than I am! [Blasphemy, I know!] I don’t want to wait around so let’s get right into it. Please allow me to introduce you to Mike, the man who runs EvilDeadWorkshed. Mike – like most of us – is a lifelong and self-proclaimed Evil Dead enthusiast who makes replica chainsaws from the series. Pretty cool stuff, but the main reason I want you to know this guy is because he’s undertaking an incredibly important challenge that is valuable to the horror community. Calling this “project:” Operation: Evil Dead Uproot, Mike has found the original filming site of Evil Dead II and decided that it needs to be salvaged and preserved, making sure sure that it will forever live on for those who wish to proclaim their love to the beloved film. WAIT WHAT?

you can read the whole story here, but here’s the basic version: Mike has been in touch with the owners of the property where Evil Dead II was filmed, which for those unaware, is in Wadesboro, NC. Ever since 2011, Mike has been meaning to visit the location, if only to step foot where Evil Dead was filmed. One day, the owners warned him that they, “…will be clearing the area where the cabin ruins are located in order to harvest the trees for local firewood businesses.” For Mike, the thought of this was too much to handle. “After having a long conversation with the owners, I have been given permission to come to the site and remove ANY and ALL Evil Dead II structures that are able to be saved prior to the devastation of the site area,Mike explains.

l8puu53

an AWESOME floor plan of the cabin – in film – by Patrick Soucy.

Unfortunately in 2014, the cabin collapsed due to a “…micro burst that hit [the owner’s] property“, so collecting and saving everything has proven to be somewhat of a difficult process. The frame of the work shed was so rotten and so damaged by termites, that Mike came to the logical conclusion to leave it behind and will build an identical frame upon which they’ll attach the original outer planks. As for materials and items from the cabin, he and his friend were able to gather as much as they possibly could, which in itself – is extremely impressive!

Of course, the million dollar question comes up: why does this matter? Luckily for you, Mike has an answer for that too! As Mike himself explains, “I am not making any money off of this. I spent a shit load of money to do this. I’m doing this for everyone. Bringing the secret and private site out of the woods and into public view. I plan on trying to bring some these structures to some of the [Western Pennsylvania] Comic-Cons.

That’s right! Depending on how everything goes – and you’re in the area – you might get a chance to interact with these original props and structures from Evil Dead II! Unfortunately being Canadian, this will prove difficult on my end..unless Steph and I went on a road trip; but knowing that someone is doing something many of us wouldn’t even fathom makes Mike one hell of a guy. From his official page, here’s a complete list of the items that were saved from the film’s site:

  • The entire Workshed [Complete Exterior and Roof Metal] Due to framing rot, the workshed collapsed during this process
  • The fake foam tree [180 degrees of the lower 5 feet of one tree]
  • 1 large Cabin window [kitchen area]
  • Cabin rear door frame with one door hinge and one screen door hinge still attached
  • Rear interior and exterior door trim
  • Interior base boards
  • Interior window frame [next to back door]
  • 1 Cabin window [rear room left of the rear door]
  • 5 bundles of cabin flooring
  • 3 large sections of interior walls
  • Cabin roofing
  • Roofing nails from the workshed
  • Cabin roofing cap
  • 3 remaining chimney stones [painted styrofoam]
  • Exterior Cabin wood [various locations]
  • Exterior Cabin plaster
  • One 55 gallon drum inside of the workshed [Resin labels – possibly used for the trees]
  • One 55 gallon drum found 100 feet from the back door [appears to be the one Ash tripped over]
  • The complete upper West wall of the living room [above where the cellar door would have been]
  • Roofing slats from the Workshed
  • One break away Ram-O-Cam door with a hinge attached
  • 90% of all remaining coal rocks where Ash buried Linda
  • A very large amount of window glass
  • The rear stairs framing
  • One rear stair
  • Small and Large pieces of white interior wall

Once again, I highly recommend heading to Mike’s page where he documents everything he did, because it’s extremely impressive. We’re talking about the endeavors and skills of a true horror fan and he deserves our thanks! Below, I’ve included a few pictures that Mike has posted, showing us fans the site now and his progress.

So there you have it, proof that you – nor I – are the “ultimate Evil Dead fan”. I think that as I’ve shown here, Mike from EvilDeadWorkShed takes that spot pretty easily. The question remains though: what do You think about the concept of rebuilding an iconic Cabin? Is it something that needs to be done? Or an unnecessary piece of work? Let me know in the comments! I recently reviewed Captain America: Civil War, and I gotta say: I absolutely loved it! [read that spoiler filled review here] Apparently so much, that I’m actually seeing it again tonight! [I recommend it highly for any Marvel fan]

Bruce Campbell ‘accidentally’ releases his script for a “Ash VS The Walking Dead”

fgornw1

If you know me in real life or at least not on the internet, you’d know that movies like Army Of Darkness and the entire Evil Dead trilogy, are some of my favorite films of all time. It was proven when I started babbling on about how I’m currently obsessing over Ash Vs Evil Dead, which I’m strongly considering one of the greater things to come out of TV in a while. Now, the one show I haven’t really given a chance, even though I keep saying I will, is The Walking Dead. But here’s a funny thought: what do you suppose would happen if Ash were to go up against the Walkers from The Walking Dead, instead of Deadites? Plus, if this were to happen, would Rick be there to help? Or would Ash get caught doing all the work? Luckily for us, it seems we’re not the only ones who are curious about this kind of thing – as Bruce Campbell, Ash himself – ‘accidentally’ released his script of how he thinks it’d play out on Twitter. Check out the tweet below!

Even if you’re more of a Walking Dead than a Evil Dead fan, you have to hand it to Bruce Campbell – he’s really confident in Ash‘s abilities over Rick‘s as far as zombie slaying goes. As proven by the above tweet, this [obviously fake] screenplay takes us back to the moment Rick Grimes wakes up from the hospital [all the way back in season one!] and realizes the world has been destroyed. Only this time, things are different from the pilot episode of – Ash is waiting outside with his signature 1973 Oldsmobile Delta Royale, and in perfect fashion, seemingly takes all the credit for “taking care of the zombie apocalypse.” To add to all this, it comes off as true to Ash as a character, since we all know he probably was the one who made it all happen, again, which is how the series would continue from that point.

I love that this feels like an alternate universe, and just like “Freddy VS Jason VS Ash,” maybe we can get this in comic book form. [time to make up a petition!] I mean, I remember when F VS J VS A was going to be a movie; and when it got dropped – we got an insane comic book.. who knows? Maybe Campbell can play the cards right, and make it happen! [though, I feel like it’s unlikely..] Oh, and that coffee stain? I’m going to go out on a whim an say it’s quite an excellent homage to Sam Raimi’s other, albeit less popular, compared to Evil Dead film Darkman.

So what do you think? Would you watch an Ash VS The Walking Dead TV show? Or is it all wishful thinking on my part, because I think it’d be a blast! Maybe I’m bias though, being a fan of The Evil Dead and all. Maybe Rick is a good zombie hunter, I mean; I’ve only seen season one [I’m preparing for hate in the comments!*] On a completely separate note, I know I seem to have disappeared for this past week, only really sharing things on the Facebook page, rather than writing a new post. [I kept meaning to write something, I swear!] However, every time I got the chance, I was either too exhausted or I had something more important to do. Afterall, this is a hobby; and life comes first. Speaking of, without going too into detail, something new is in the making in my ‘real world’ life – outside of warrenisweird – which I will talk about when the time is right. So be prepared for that! I have no idea when, but hopefully soon! ANYWAY..

Ash VS Evil Dead: Episode 03 review

AshVSEvilDead3r

A little while ago, I wrote about the first episode of Ash VS Evil Dead and how after one episode, I was hooked. [read that review over here!] As soon as the following episode went live [titled: “Bait”] I had to watch it, and I did. It was just as fun as the first episode, if not more so, and introduced us to a few more characters. I had meant to write a review on it, but unfortunately with work, and other personal matters coming first – as well as different posts – I decided to wait until now: the third episode. In my opinion thus far, Episode 03: Books From Beyond is the one of the best yet; and here’s why.

In the first episode, we’re shown that Ash has a business card for a store that calls itself Books From Beyond, which he calls and asks about “a particular book.” It turns out that Ash has been to this bookstore before, presumably when he first got the Necronomicon, and decides he needs to find an ‘undo button’ spell to stop the Deadites from becoming any worse than they already have been so far.

ejccxaf

According to Lionel Hawkins, the ill-fated book store owner who translates the Necronomicon for Ash, the Book Of The Dead was written by an ancient group of evildoers called The Dark Ones[okay, that could have been a little more creative..] These not quite human, not quite demon entities made some spells that supposedly have the ability to open portals into Hell, and unleash demons into our world. As Hawkins puts it, “The book itself is harmless unless wielded by someone very evil, or very stupid.” I’ll give you three guesses which category our supposed “hero” falls into..

As a way of almost proving Hawkins‘ point, Ash‘s great plan to figure out why the Deadites are coming back is to release another one from the book, if only to ask it questions. [cause that makes sense. Good call Ash!] Our team of Ghost Beaters [Pablo‘s brilliant team name consisting of Ash, Kelly, and Pablo]  as well as our new book savvy friend Lionel, decide on a “minor, wimpy Deadite” [as Ash calls it] named Eligos who, as the Necronomicon claims,  is a “demon of the mind.” Which is proven when he can seemingly invade his enemies’ brain!

ash-vs-evil-dead-103-eligos

I really like Eligos‘ look. Very Hellraiser-esque.

Oh, and if you’re wondering about Amanda Fisher, the cop who was chasing Ash down in the last two episodes after her partner became a Deadite in episode 01 – she’s around too! She’s currently convinced Ash is deliberately causing the chaos that surrounds him. She guilts Kelly into freeing her from captivity to take him down right in the middle of the Deadite summoning, and not even the faceless Deadite, who seems to be defeated by smacking him with the Necronomicon, can change the her mind. As soon as the smoke clears, and Eligos is officially Eligone [I am so sorry..] she snaps her cop cuffs on our hero.. again! Fortunately, his detachable wooden hand comes in.. handy, I didn’t even mean for that joke to happen, and he just barely escapes.

With no other leads on anything, The Ghost Beaters ultimately decide that the best course of action is to find Pablo‘s Brujo: his uncle who also happens to be a Shaman. Will he help? I mean, according to Pablo in episode 01, they don’t really talk anymore, and it’s been a long time since they saw one another..

In short, Ash VS Evil Dead really exceeded my expectations. I was worried, and even a little weirded out by a TV series based on the films but it’s doing better and better with every episode. The pacing is great, the characters are fun, and even the over the top violence that is known from the series; it’s all really fun to watch! I do have one question for the series though: [which will eventually be answered] just who is Lucy Lawless‘ character? She seems to know a lot about Ash, the Necronomicon, and the Deadites themselves.. I guess we’ll have to wait to find out! She’s shown to have a seemingly magical dagger that seems reminiscent of The Kandarian Dagger from Evil Dead II..could this be important? It certainly seems to be!

ykkjf5h

Personally, I hope he comes back, I think he’s cute..

“Ash VS Evil Dead” is GROOVY! [episode 1: El Jefe review]

ASHVSTVLet’s be honest: every horror fan should be at least aware of The Evil Dead and it’s crazy antics from movies, to comic books, to TV series? It’s a cult classic, and it has not one, but two sequels: both that are some of the most entertaining horror films out there. After the end of Army Of Darknesswhich is technically Evil Dead 3 – there was even talks of a fourth movie! However, it ended up never coming out. Instead, we got a movie that became the 2013 remake, which was still a fantastic film! [taking away the humor, and making it full fronted horror!] Now, they opted to do a TV series with Bruce Campbell back as Ash, and although it’s been a while, it’s good to have the King himself back at the wheel of what I will always consider his franchise. So today, after finally watching it [even if it did premiere on Halloween] I’m going to be talking about Ash VS Evil Dead: episode 1.

yeah – this buffoon..

Directed by original Evil Dead creator Sam Raimi, this first episode of Ash VS Evil Dead is exactly what Evil Dead fans had been waiting for. It’s funny, it’s bloody as hell, and you get yourself more Bruce Campbell then you ever thought you needed; it’s perfect.

Of course, Since this is technically taking place 30-ish years after Army Of Darkness, a lot has changed in the Evil Dead movie and TV world, so some fans might find themselves to be disappointed with the end result, but myself; I think that we are in for something special with this series. An almost expanded look at the mythology of what the Evil truly is in the term “Evil Dead.”

This series premiere starts off as you would probably imagine: Ash being his old lazy, sexy [and maybe a little bit larger than life, if you get my meaning] self, working in a little store [ValueMart, no longer S-Mart] and just watching as the days pass him by. But, in true Evil Dead fashion, things don’t take long to go wrong – once again, all because of Ash – and the Deadites are coming back.. with only vengeance on their mind! We get some nice homages to the old movies, some intense Ash VS Deadite action, and typical over the top situations. Also, Ash; a lot older Ash, which makes you wonder why it took so long to have him back. It felt great to have Bruce Campbell back in the role I fell in love with him in, and with all the hints and nods to the classic films, it really made me appreciate what this series is beginning to set up. I would say this should have come sooner, but I’m glad they waited to get it right, and with newer forms of “evil” present, [see the GIF below] and new friends to help Ash along the way to stop the Evil, I think we’re in for something special with Ash VS Evil Dead – especially if after one episode, they’ve already renewed it for a second season!

even if we haven’t seen this guy yet – other than in the trailer – I’m excited to learn just who – or what – he is!

Seriously though, this first episode is a blast to watch, if not nearly perfect! I’m just hoping the level of intensity it had keeps up throughout this entire season, which with Bruce Campbell at the helm, I’m sure it will.

So, I know I say it a lot but if you’re a fan of Evil Dead and/or Bruce Campbell PLEASE check out Ash VS Evil Dead. It’s just so much fun to watch, and it’s bound to be something to keep on eye on – especially as horror fans. I know it’s on Starz, which may make it difficult, but fear not! I got you covered: because of the huge positive response it received, Starz media is actually streaming the first episode for free on their website over here[if that link struggles, try this one. just make sure you change the quality to 480p for best results] so do yourself a solid and watch it. You won’t be disappointed!

so is Ash VS Evil Dead worth catching on Starz? Well, if you can’t tell by my positive response above, I’d say the show is shaping up to be something pretty damn groovy. I simply cannot for episode two to come this Saturday, which I’ll be sure to be watching before heading out to work, though I’ll no doubt be raving about it to everyone!

WEIRDO’WEEN #07: THE EVIL DEAD [1981]

weirdoween2015There’s really nothing like relaxing at the cottage during summer break with your friends, is there? The cool air and the feeling of being away from society really feels good once in a while. The best, in my opinion, is when you put a CD [or plug your iPod in] on and listen to the music and really take it in.. At least, it’s nice as long as you don’t play an audio book that’s playing a passage from the Book of the Dead! That’s what happens in today’s movie review, where five friends find unspeakable evil lurking in the forest around them. They find a tome bound in skin called the “Necronomicon“, and the taped translation of the text inside. Once they play the tape, the evil is then released. One by one, these teenagers are possessed, [by the book] with only one remaining. It’s up to him to survive the night and battle The Evil Dead.

weirdo'ween-#7Like most – if not all – of the movies I review on here, I chose this movie because it falls under the category of “films I enjoy”. It’s a classic Man VS Zombie film, but be warned; it’s an extremely gory film. [almost over the top gory] It was made back in the early 80’s, so what do you expect? Most horror movies from this era were over the top, and that’s what made them so good! What’s interesting is that with horror films that are made now-a-days, Directors don’t seem to care about the material that they are filming, and that is because they don’t write their own stories. [the ones that do are few and far between!] They do someone else’s work. But not The Evil Dead. This was Raimi‘s money maker from the beginning. When this movie was made, he was unknown, with no pressure to make a great film and they did it.. on an incredibly low budget of only $50 000. Meaning, that Raimi could stick to his vision for The Evil Dead, but had to find innovative ways to do it. The small budget didn’t allow a lot of special effects so they had to rely on what they knew. That, was how to create atmosphere using the camera. And this film is one of the absolute best at doing that.

There is one scene in this film, near the very beginning scenes where the cast first arrives at the cabin. We see a long shot of the cabin with very eerie music playing softly, and it increasingly gets louder. This shows the cabin as being menacing, letting you know that there is evil inside that cabin; and that we are in for a hell of a ride – because we’re going inside.

The film also has many shocking scenes which show us that they never planned on holding back anything. An example of this, is the infamous getting raped by trees scene which – at a time – was very unsettling and scary! [The film was banned for awhile because of this!] We also get to see people getting hacked to pieces and a few heads get chopped off, with over the top blood and gore everywhere! This film is all about stylistic fear, and that adds to the creep-factor. This movie probably wouldn’t be as scary if Sam Raimi wasn’t behind the camera. If this film isn’t for you because of the lack of budget , you should check out Evil Dead 2from 1987 – it’s the sequel [that isn’t really a sequel] to this film that gives a better story-arc of what’s going on, and more of a budget is given this time around!

But, one of the most terrifying scenes [even if it could be considered a jump-scare] is when all the characters are inside the cabin, and they know something isn’t right, and one of the girls is standing beside the window while the other 2 girls are playing cards trying to guess each others cards and the girl standing by the window guesses all the cards correctly, turns around and we find out she’s a zombie [Deadite?] and immediately starts attacking everyone! The first time I watched this, I was genuinely shocked – I wasn’t ready for that! I don’t think anyone was!

In short, the atmosphere and noticeably cheap effects may turn-off your typical horror film fanatics, but anyone that has a sense of adventure and has high tolerance for [over the top] gore will be reasonably pleased – if not greatly impressed – by Raimi and Campbell‘s first effort at a horror film. It’s one of, if not my favorite in the zombie genre, not only for it’s repeated viewings but also for the film’s extra features. [how else would you find out that the white contacts that the Deadites wear were actually blinding the actors? Making it impossible to see!]

So now the question remains: do you fall under the category of enjoying the low budget splatter fest film that is The Evil Dead? What is it about over the top gore that makes it so appealing? “EVIL DEAD” creator SAM RAIMI is DIRECTING..

I’m a fan of the original Evil Dead trilogy. Hell, I even loved the Evil Dead remake! So it’s no wonder that I’m extremely excited for the new TV series from STARZ: Ash vs Evil Dead. Not much is known about the show yet, although we do know it will continue the adventures of Ash, with two new sidekicks. [played by Ray Santiago and Dana DeLorenzo] If that’s not enough to get you excited about the show, we even have a plot mapped out which is as follows:

“We are introduced to a nomadic Ash, a figure who’s not only haunted by traumatic memories but also terrorized by the unwelcome continuance of Deadite attacks, which have followed him to the myriad Midwestern trailer parks he’s been forced to call home. In an effort to eke out an existence and in keeping with his previous choice of career, the character spends his days working at Ted’s Superclub as a stock room trainee and, in true Ash fashion, his evenings chasing skirt in roadside bars.”

Now the real reason I’m explaining all this [if you haven’t figured it out by now] is that Sam Raimi, the original creator of the Evil Dead series, is slated to direct the first episode of the new Ash vs Evil Dead show! The script was written with Ivan Raimi, Craig DiGregorio, and Tom Spezialy as well! Sam Raimi will also be acting as the series’ executive producer [being the creator of the characters, etc] along with Rob Tapert, Campbell and DiGregorio coming to serve as executive producers. Obviously, this is fantastic news; as it should be keeping the feeling of Evil Dead alive – no pun intended.

“fucking yeeeeeees!”

With ten -30 minute- episodes ordered for the show, principal filming is slated to start this April in New Zealand with a planned Halloween 2015 series debut on Starz media. I just have to hope it heads to Netflix too, since I don’t exactly have cable at the apartment.. According to Bruce Campbell, these “new” deadites are very clever, saying that they are not “stupid shufflers”. He’s also mentioned that they can mimic people; and even drive cars!

Ultimately, Ash vs Evil Dead is still in production, [October is at least 8 months away ] but at the very least, this news is enough to satisfy me for now.. what about you guys? Are you feeling as excited as I am about the news involving series creator Sam Raimi directing the first official episode? Let me know in a comment or two, or even on Facebook. And while you’re over on Facebook, be sure to hit that “like” button and tell your family and friends!

underrated movie of the day: Bubba Ho-Tep

20141005-093455.jpg DON’T FUCK WITH THE KING, BABY! When you hear the title BUBBA HO-TEP, what would you assume the movie is about? If you guessed Elvis Presley and John F Kennedy as elders, battling an ancient Mummy who wishes to eat the souls of everyone — you’re just too damn good at this! Or you’ve seen the film before.. To start our movie madness for October, [I’m a bit behind because of unforeseen situations..] I decided it’d be good to start with a campy, less scary favorite, and continue from there! According to Bubba Ho-Tep, the title is the name of an ancient Egyptian Mummy who has been resting for thousands of years; who just happens to reside in Texas. Also, Elvis and [an African American] JFK never died, but actually reside in a retirement home together. In fact, according to the film — the Elvis that actually died, was an impersonator who took over for the real King when life became to difficult to manage! Already sounds like ridiculousness, am I right? [and Bruce Campbell as Elvis? all of the yes!]

20141005-101529.jpg If the concept of the film wasn’t enough to grab your attention, just think of the memorable quotes the film has for you! From “what do I care? I got a growth on my pecker!” to the one in the picture above. [bonus: “they painted me this color!”] But if quotes and Bruce Campbell aren’t enough to satisfy you, [seriously, who gets tired of The King?!] allow me to introduce you to none other than Bubba Ho-Tep himself:

20141005-102332.jpg He’s creepy, he’s eerie, he’s..from Texas? His go to method of killing seniors is sucking out their souls — through their butts; seriously . He’s so different than most monsters, let alone mummies, because of his method.. He even leaves Egyptian writing [as graffiti!] on the bathroom stall walls, giving our unlikely heroes clues as to who’s next to be killed. Which is pretty damn hardcore, points to you Mr. Bubba Ho-Tep!

20141005-103254.jpg In short, this movie is totally recommended: with so much campy-ness, and just awesome cinematography, it’d be almost a shame not to bring it up. It has a ton of awesome quotes, and the acting is superb — especially from our two heroes and it was directed by the same guy who made the more recent movie John Dies At The End — which I still really need to see. There definitely needs to be more movies like Bubba Ho-Tep; cause it’s just all around fun!
