Johnny Depp

Kevin Smith’s “Yoga Hosers” releases FIRST CLIP:

Remember Kevin Smith‘s Tusk? It’s difficult to believe that came out four years ago, isn’t it? I remember when it was first released, I had read somewhere that Smith had claimed that Tusk was only the “beginning of a ‘Canadian Terror’ trilogy.” I looked into it, and I found out that this was fact. As it turns out, The plan is for a trilogy of films, all set inside the same universe. Today’s movie, Yoga Hosers, features the returning characters of the two convenience store girls – Colleen and Colleen[Depp & Smith‘s daughters] along with Johnny Depp returning as Guy LaPointe. The rest of the actors will be different characters; according to Smith, he wanted to bring everybody back since they got along so well in Tusk. Now the cool thing is, he also said there would be other references to Tusk in this one [he said people refer to the “Manitoba Manatee” to which the girls reply “it was a walrus”.] I don’t know much about the 3rd movie other than it will be titled “Moose Jaws” and is supposedly to be like Jaws but with a moose. [why are you so surprised?] All this information is coming from when he has talked about it on his podcast.

The important thing to remember is that this clip was shown at Sundance this year, and like most of his films, Kevin Smith is a writer you either love or hate. In his new installment Yoga Hosers, we follow “Colleen Collette and Colleen McKenzie, two teenage besties from Winnipeg who love yoga and live on their smartphones. But when these sophomores get invited to a senior party by the school hottie, the Colleens accidentally uncover an ancient evil buried beneath their Canadian convenience store.” In this first clip from the film, we see Colleen and Colleen talking to the “school hottie” about a certain party, and for some reason – it tries to look all..artsy? [I don’t even think that’s the right word for it] Let’s check it out below!

Now, maybe it’s because I’m not a teenager anymore, but I’m really confused by the conversation that’s shared between all these teens. Although, from a film point of view, maybe that was the point; maybe we weren’t meant to understand to show that teenagers are not understandable..or maybe I’m looking too hard into it.

Ultimately, I’m excited for this to get wide-spread release, I was excited for Tusk, [hell, I was part of the #WalrusYes movement] and I love the feel that comes from this clip. I know it doesn’t seem like the biggest and best new film from Smith, but it’s important to note that it seems these movies – Tusk, Yoga Hosers, Moose Jaws – are being made for him. He’s not looking for high class fame from them, he’s not trying to say he deserves every award by making them; if anything [to me anyway] it comes off as he’s doing this for fun; for himself. I think that’s what film making should be. Yes, do it for the fans as well, but for the most part – do it for you. [that was deep]

Like always, this is where I turn to You: are You planning on seeing Yoga Hosers when it receives wide-spread theater releases? Why or Why Not? Based on the poster, [which the above picture is taken from] it certainly has a color palette of the 1970s, which could be a good or a bad thing. Sideshow Collectibles & Hot Toys to release EXTREME Ichabod Crane figure!

I wish I could say otherwise, but I still haven’t seen FOXTV‘s rendition of Sleepy Hollow; [I know, I know! yell at me later.. I’m behind, I get it!] even though the story is one of my favorites. this would have to mean that Tim Burton‘s film adaptation of the classic story – is one of my favorite Tim Burton films. I just feel that Sleepy Hollow is one of the best stories for Burton, and let’s not forget young and youthful Johnny Depp! the film was perfect. So when Sideshow Collectibles let loose that there will be a figure of Depp‘s Ichabod Crane being released over here, I just had to share my love and desire for it. below, I’ve included [the entire] official product description, which is also broken down into various sections:

Since its first publication in 1820, Sleepy Hollow has been a popular story in American fiction. In 1999 master storyteller Tim Burton wove an eerie and enchanting version of the classic tale of horror starring Johnny Depp as Ichabod Crane, an eccentric investigator determined to stop the murderous Headless Horseman. Sideshow Collectibles and Hot Toys are delighted to present the Sleepy Hollow sixth scale Ichabod Crane Collectible Figure. The movie-accurate Ichabod Crane Sixth Scale Figure is specially crafted based on the image of Johnny Depp in the film and features a newly developed head sculpt, an elegantly-tailored costume, and a number of highly detailed accessories which Ichabod uses in the movie.

the goods don’t just stop there though, this figure has a fucking ton of features which include [taken from the official site]:

just one of the many pictures released of the figure!

the lovely Ichabod toy [it’s not a toy, Mom! it’s an “action figure”!] is available for pre-order over on their website for a grand total of $234.99 [or $58.75 a month, depending on the payment  plan you go with] and is expected to be released officially in August 2015, which is surprisingly sooner than I would have expected!

So now I look to you. do you enjoy collecting figures? if you do, which ones do you have? I’ll collect them sometimes, depending on what the figure is – and this one is certainly a “want” of mine for the year! be sure to check out Sideshow Collectibles for more awesome pop culture figures.. just make sure you have a heavy wallet first, as some of the toys [FIGURES] are expensive – for good reason.

why “BIG EYES” is going to be FANTASTIC! [Dear Mr. Burton]

I don’t remember if I’ve ever mentioned it on here, but I’m a fairly large Tim Burton fan. I have been since I was a kid with films like Batman, Beetlejuice, and Nightmare Before Christmas. As I grew up, I started growing with the films of Burton – always watching his newest film and eventually calling myself a fan. [I do own all his films on DVD too] However, by becoming a fan of his; I also [inadvertently] became a fan of Johnny Depp. While not a bad thing – everyone is entitled to a favorite actor – I began to attach Depp to Burton specifically: as many people have started doing..

enter Big Eyes Tim Burton‘s new film: It’s his first biopic, since  Ed Wood  which was released 20 years prior to this film. It’s one of Burton‘s first fully human  film in a long time [without the creepy atmospheres that I grew to love so much over the years] – and you know what? I’m thinking that I’m okay with that. The film is also [based on]  a true story – being the story centered around the awakening of painter Margaret Keane, her phenomenal success in the 1950s, only to go through the subsequent legal difficulties she had with her husband, who actually claimed credit for her works in the 1960s. If you look at the IMDb link for the film, you’ll also notice that this film does not have Johnny Depp or even Helena Bonham Carter, but instead, we’re treated to actors such as Amy Adams and even Christoph Waltz!

While some may see this as a risky move, making a film without his main two actors; [best friend/partner] I think it’s going to be fantastic! It’s truly a switch from what we’re used to – and it looks fucking great! The first trailer has actually been released but I was a little slow getting to it [because of work, etc] but now that I’ve officially watched it – I can’t get enough. as a horror fan, I never thought I’d be excited for a biopic! Maybe it’s cause Burton‘s name is attached though. If you haven’t already seen  it, I’ve included the [first] trailer for Big Eyes below. Let me know in a comment or two what you think!
